I often ask my clients to share a list of their greatest accomplishments. Writing Transitioning Your Federal Resume to Private Industry is truly in my Top Ten Accomplishments of my career.
I started writing this book the next day after the OPM Fork in the Road Memo was sent on Jan. 28, 2025 to thousands of Federal employees offering that they can resign now (deadline: February 6) and get paid until September 30.
I knew immediately that thousands of Federal employees would need guidance with converting their long Federal resume into a 2-page Private Industry resume. They need a job – in Private Industry or State/Municipal positions.
When the book was completed, I taught about 30 one-hour free classes for the federal employees (several thousand) who needed to write the new 2-page private industry resume.
I am deeply honored to share that Transitioning Your Federal Resume to Private Industry has been named a 2026 Independent Press Award Winner in the category of Reference.
This recognition means so much to me because this book was written to truly serve others, and seeing its impact acknowledged is incredibly meaningful.
I am grateful for the journey – this was the FIRST TIME I taught Federal employees to write a private-industry resume! I taught the critical lessons for high competition in the job market: including 7 samples in the book, strong recommendations to add accomplishments, and how to match keywords to the job announcement, AND – very important – how to reduce the content from the LONG Federal resume.
